Magic Hat Brewing Company, established in 1994 in Burlington, Vermont, is excited to release a brand-new IPA, Taken for Granite (aka TFG). They were kind enough to send us some cans to try.
TFG was one of the first beers in Magic Hat’s Vermont-Only Pilot Batch Program, and it was received astoundingly well by those lucky enough to find it in Vermont. It’s the first beer from the Vermont-Only Series to graduate to the big stage of year-round beers.
TFG invites you to chip away at its complex hop layers. Upon first sniff and sip, you will dig up notes of grapefruit, orange, and peach. Crisp with an incredibly smooth, yet subtle, malt backing, TFG is juicy and delicious. It’s a rock solid IPA.
Magic Hat “hopped the sh*t” out of TFG. In the boil, they dosed it with Magnum, Nugget, Simcoe, Amarillo, and Cascade. It was then dry-hopped with a hefty load of more Nugget, more Amarillo, and more Cascade. Magic hat calls TFG “one of our best IPAs to date.”
TFG isn’t just about pleasing palates, though. It’s about acknowledging where Magic Hat came from – a groundbreaking, pioneering Vermont brewery – and showing where they are headed – doubling down on innovation through the Vermont-Only Series (known by locals as the series with the granite tap handle) and not taking their place in the annals of craft beer for granted.
Thank you Magic Hat Brewing Company for sharing this great beer with us! Cheers!
