Fifth Hammer Brewing Company is a new 15-barrel brewery located in the heart of Long Island City, New York.

Fifth Hammer owners David Scharfstein and Chris Cuzme met in early January 2015 and started searching for brewery space the following week. It took almost 2 years, but they finally opened in late September of 2017.

Cuzme is the brewer and as a self-proclaimed promiscuous drinker, follows the same philosophy in his brewing. They strive for variety and try to have a little something for everyone.

Why Fifth Hammer? Although Pythagoras is probably best known as a mathematician, he is also recognized as the father of harmony. The tale is that Pythagoras was walking by a blacksmith one day and was captivated by the sounds coming from within. Four of five hammers rung out in harmony, the fifth was discordant and unable to be processed by Pythagoras.

Fifth Hammer represents individuality and not being afraid of being outside the realms of conventional harmony.

Troublesome Jellyfish is a 7.7% hazy Double IPA that was double dry-hopped with Mosaic and Motueka. The beer is available to go in 4-packs of cans at the brewery.
