Oxbow Brewing Company is a small farmhouse brewery located in Newcastle, Maine. The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in the winding tidal rivers, specifically the Dyer River, which features horseshoe-shaped oxbows. An oxbow by definition is a U-shaped bend in the course of a river.

The brewery in Newcastle, located down a dirt driveway on Jones Woods Road, features a brewery in a converted barn where all Oxbow beers are brewed using spring water drawn from the adjacent well. Additionally, Oxbow has a guesthouse that overlooks the brewery, tasting room, and pond. The three-bedroom house is available for rental.

Oxbow Blending & Bottling is located in Portland, Maine, about 50 miles southwest of the brewery. This location houses over 200 oak barrels and dozens of stainless steel tanks, all filled with mixed-fermentation or “sour” beers.

Both locations offer several Oxbow beers to go in bottles and cans. Luppolo is an unfiltered dry-hopped pilsner. The beer is available in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans.

The beer is described as an Italian-styled pilsner brewed with the finest European malts and hops. Named after the Italian word for “hop,” Luppolo is an homage to the hop-forward lagers brewed in Italy.
