Steph’s New Brew Review: Burn Pile

Steph’s New Brew Review: Burn Pile

Magic Hat Brewing Company Burn Pile, 7.5% ABV Smoked Porter

Appearance Nearly opaque black color with a fluffy tan head.
Aroma Sweet cocoa upfront with hints of smoke.
Taste Slightly sweet chocolate flavor balances the smoke flavor. Super drinkable.
Mouthfeel Medium bodied, silky and smooth.
Overall This beer is certainly not Schlenkerla smoky. The smoke is subtle, yet present, making this a very drinkable beer. I would definitely drink this beer again.

Magic Hat Brewing Company has been brewing up tasty beers in South Burlington, Vermont since 1994. They are known for their year round offerings including #9, their “not quite pale ale.”

Burn Pile is part of Magic Hat’s Humdinger Series, a group of small batch, limited release beers. Interestingly, all of the Humdinger Series beers are bottled by hand in 750 mL cork and cage bottles.

Some beers in the Humdinger Series are so rare they are only available on tap at the brewery.

Burn Pile is brewed with six different malts: Maris Otter Pale, Munich, Smoked Malt, Caramel 80L, Chocolate and Carafa. Apollo hops are added, and the beer is fermented with their house Ringwood, and English-style ale yeast.
