Overall | UFO Hefeweizen was my first “favorite craft beer” and continues to be one of my favorites today. UFO Gingerland is a wonderful addition to the UFO series. I love how the ginger, cinnamon, and clove complement the beer without overpowering the hefeweizen base. |
The UFO series is a line of UnFiltered Offerings from Boston’s Harpoon Brewery. The original UnFiltered Offering, UFO Hefeweizen, was first brewed in 1998 because Harpoon’s brewers had enjoyed the style while visiting the Pacific Northwest and yearned for a similar beer in the Northeast. In 2006, UFO Raspberry was added. The idea for this brew came when Harpoon brewed a Framboise as part of the 100 Barrel Series and Harpooners mixed the Framboise with UFO Hefeweizen to balance the tartness of the raspberry. Brilliant!
UFO White was first brewed in 2009, brewed with orange peel and coriander, and became Harpoon’s fastest growing beer style. UFO Pumpkin was introduced in 2011, and in March 2014 UFO Big Squeeze Shandy, a sweet yet tart grapefruit shandy, was added to the mix.
The newest addition to the UFO series is UFO Gingerland. The warmth of ginger combined with seasonal spices of cinnamon and clove help any Harpooner withstand the coldest and darkest days of the year.
