Speakeasy Ales and Lagers Big Daddy IPA, a 6.5% ABV 55 IBU India Pale Ale
Big Daddy IPA is a generously dry-hopped yet extremely drinkable American-style India Pale Ale. This IPA is brewed with Two Row Pale and Light Munich malts. The hop bill includes Columbus, Cascade, and Centennial hops, and they use California Ale yeast.
The bottle reads, “No lightweight, Big Daddy IPA tips the scales with a huge hop flavor and a clean, dry finish that leaves the scene without a trace.“
Speakeasy’s taproom, which is designed as a wood-paneled basement hideaway, is located at 1195 Evans Avenue in San Francisco, California. They always have 12 beers on tap. Visitors may bring their own food, and on Fridays food is for purchase from a local vendor. They also have a bar in the industrial warehouse and production facility, which is open to the public on Friday evenings. On Tuesday through Sunday at 3:30 PM you can take a 30 minute tour of the brewery, which includes a history of the company, a walk through the brewery, as well as a look at packaging and the barrel-aging program.
The brewery recently announced on their Facebook page that they will release the limited edition Payback Coffee Porter next week. The porter is made with coffee from Ritual Coffee, a pioneer in what some call a “coffee revolution” in San Francisco.
Appearance
Clear, golden straw color; loads of bubbles; foamy off-white head.
Aroma
Citrusy – grapefruit, floral, piney, subtle bready notes.
Taste
Piney hops, sweet maltiness, hints of caramel, lingering hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel
Crisp, semi-dry.
Overall
This beer is well balanced, a nice marriage of sweet maltiness and piney bitterness.
