Portland, Oregon is regularly rated among America’s top craft beer cities. According to oregoncraftbeer.org, it’s estimated that 53% percent of all draft beer consumed in Oregon is brewed in Oregon. There are currently 58 breweries in Portland and 84 in the Portland metro area.
I recently had a chance to visit Portland, Oregon, and while I did not visit all 84 Portland-area breweries, I did manage to check out 14 stand out breweries.
According to Gigantic Brewing Company’s website, they only do two things: “make the best damn IPA in Portland, Oregon and produce seasonal, exciting, flavorful beers, most of which will be brewed only once.” They hold themselves to a simple principle – “Never Give an Inch.”
There are eight beers on tap at Gigantic Brewing. The “best damn IPAs” are Gigantic IPA, brewed with Cascade, Centennial, Crystal and Simcoe, and Ginormous Imperial IPA, brewed with seven different hops. Seasonal beers on tap included Pipewrench Gin Barrel Aged IPA, Hearts & Stars Saison, Vivid Imperial IPA, Scrilla Hoppy Summer Pale Ale, AmeriKölsch, and Half Pint.
Gigantic does not have a kitchen, however you are welcome to bring a picnic, order a pizza or bring food over from the carts in the vicinity. Snacks like popcorn and nuts are available for purchase. Champagne is sold by the bottles, and a variety of Jarritos sodas are available.
The taproom is open Monday to Wednesday 3 to 9 PM, Thursday to Friday 2 to 10 PM, Saturday noon to 10 PM, and Sunday noon to 9 PM. Minors are not allowed. Beers are available in bottles and growlers to go. There is plenty of free street parking.
