Visiting a beach town in the summer makes sense. Escape to beautiful scenery, local independent vendors, family attractions, and more. During the offseason the experience can be different – the scenery is still the same, but businesses either close or amend their hours.
Nestled in Carolina Beach, North Carolina, Good Hops Brewing welcomes craft beer enthusiasts all year round.
The taproom features ample seating with a window behind the bar overlooking the brewhouse. Using a 3-bbl system, the equipment is typically in use 8am-8pm daily, with free tours at 4pm. The outdoor beer garden offers tables in the sun and shade, a small stage for live music, and a fire pit for cooler nights with friends. Beyond the fence is Trinity Disc Golf, a 9-hole course filling the rest of the brewery’s 4-acre land.
The beers offered run the gamut of styles. On tap during this visit were IPAs, a pale ale, brown ale, pilsner, kolsch, and a stout released February 13th called Broken Hearted Stout. They also offered a barleywine – not on tap, but rather poured from a jar. Their Pleasure Island Pilsner was as light and crisp as you’d want, and their Black Sky IPA offered a light hop bitterness with a strong malt backbone.
In the spirit of community and friendliness in the craft beer world, around the corner from the tap list is a sign asking to pay it forward. The program offers the ability to fill out a slip and buy a beer or glass of wine for someone else on a future visit. The brewery also offers a monthly Pint Nite where you can purchase a special glass to sample their beers, and a Wine Nite that features wine from local distributors.
Whether you want to stop for a quick cold one or stay and play a round of disc golf or giant Jenga, Good Hops Brewing is a must-stop for anyone traveling through the area.
