If you haven’t been to Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza yet, what are you waiting for? With the warmer weather upon us, the front windows at the Wyomissing location are wide open with outdoor seating. If you’d prefer, there are comfy couches inside by the windows. Pizza, beer, good company…what ‘s not to love?
I recently attended the Victory Brewing Company Tap Takeover at Anthony’s. Adam Gladish, Victory’s eastern Pennsylvania sales rep, brought along a variety of Victory beers including Swing Session Saison, Summer Love Ale, HopDevil Ale, DirtWolf Double IPA, and Storm King Stout.
Beer drinkers in attendance could also sip on two exclusive beers from Victory including Hop Ticket Hoppy Wheat Ale. This 5.5% ABV slightly hazy, straw colored wheat beer brings the thick white head and aromas of peppery wheat and fruit esters you’ve come to expect from a wheat beer meshed with mild hop bitterness creating a delightfully refreshing and drinkable warm weather ale.
My favorite of the night was the Victory Dark Lager, a 4.8% ABV deep, chestnut color lager typically only available at the Victory brewpub. The malty aromas and flavors dominate with a slight sweetness and caramel notes. Delicious wonderfulness.
Anyone who ordered a flight of 4 Victory beers took home a free Victory pint glass. Beers were also $1 off during Happy Hour. And did you know craft beers are half off all day on Mondays and Tuesdays?
I arrived right around 5 PM when the event began, and we got the last two seats at the bar. Patrons received raffle tickets for Victory swag. Mariana Creque, sales consultant for Gretz Beer Company, sent raffle winners home with their choice of a bottle of Victory Helios, a Victory pint glass, or Victory T-shirt. Winners were chosen throughout the night.
And who could resist the perfect companion for beer…pizza?! Anthony’s Arugula Pizza, their traditional pie served with arugula salad on top, was a smart choice. Other visitors enjoyed the Broccoli Rabe & Sausage Pie and the Roasted Cauliflower Pizza. The oven roasted chicken wings served with caramelized onions and focaccia bread were also a popular choice.
The best part of the evening was meeting the regulars who frequently visit Anthony’s. Rich Aust and Alex Pottios, managers of the Wyomissing location, make everyone feel welcome and take the time to chat with each customer. Their hospitality add to the dining experience and make you look forward to your next visit.
Mark your calendars now for upcoming tap takeovers at Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. On May 22, Appalachian Brewing Company will be in attendance, and Tröegs Brewing Company will be there on June 19. Other upcoming takeovers will include Sly Fox Brewery and Weyerbacher Brewing Company.
