Press Release… Beginning on March 2nd, the first canned beer by South County Brewing Company will be available through distributors, taverns and grocery stores throughout the Susquehanna Valley, Philadelphia and select Maryland counties. Expect to see 12-packs at beer distributors and in 4-packs and singles at bottle shops, and Weis Markets. Cans will also be available at the brewery tap room in Fawn Grove.
“Canning our beer allows us to reach a wider audience,” said Brewer and Managing Partner, JR Heaps. “The can opens up new territory such as beaches, parks, music venues, boating, camping and the like.”
The first beer to hit cans is an East Cost style Double IPA called “Liminal Moment”. This IPA is brewed with American and New Zealand hops to the rate of 3 pounds per barrel. This beer abounds with tropical fruit flavors and aromas that include peach, pear, pineapple, stone fruit, light pine and citrus. These flavors are balanced with the addition of oats in the mash to create a smooth mouth feel and softer bitterness.
Liminal Moment cans as well as the rest of the year round line up will be debuting in the Philadelphia market with help of South County’s newly appointed Philadelphia Area Sales Manager, Craig Blankenship. Blankenship is a York County native that has lived and worked in the craft beer scene for 7 years in Philly, most notably his tenure at the renowned Khyber Pass Pub on South 2nd Street.
About South County Brewing Company
Heaps started home brewing in 2006, quickly moving on to all grain brewing and built his own pilot system within 3 months, which is still used at the taproom to this day. Soon after Heaps attended the Siebel Institute of Technology and went on to work and shadow at a number of small and regional area breweries.
Ground work for the brewery started in January of 2010 and after a year of construction the brewery opened in July of 2011. The newly minted brewery hosted a small 5 barrel system that Heaps had fabricated himself from old British serving tanks, bottling by hand and self distributing. The brewery now host a 15 barrel semi-automated steam brew-house, fermentation cellar as well as an automated 12 ounce packaging line that Heaps and his brother built as well.
South County Brewing Co. is known for brewing full flavored ales and lagers, most notably it’s Black Cowgirl Double IPA. Growing from humble roots, the brewery now serves 27 counties in Eastern and Central PA and Northern Maryland. The Taproom is open Wednesday through Saturday.
