Press release… On Friday January 12th, Bryan Selders of Dogfish Head Brewery will hop a plane with local non-profit Philly Loves Beer (PLB) and head to Belgium. This isn’t an ordinary trip as Dogfish Head was selected to tag along with Nick Kilkenny, who was the very lucky winner of PLB’s annual raffle held back in November! Both Nick Kilkenny and Dogfish will be heading to Brewery De Brabandere to brew the official 2018 Philly Beer Week Collaboration Beer.
This collaboration beer will debut at the kick-off party to Philly Beer Week, known as Opening Tap, in June. Philly Loves Beer is all year round, and this annual trip helps Philadelphia (and PLB) maintain its high profile status as “America’s Best Beer Drinking City” through education, beer tourism, and local brewery support.
Christina Dowd, Executive Director of Philly Loves Beer, says: “I’ve been hearing how amazing this trip has been for years – and this year – I’m going! Super excited to not only represent the organization but Philly beer in general! We have board members that go to Belgium/Europe regularly so the planning has been stellar and we’ve got a good amount of eating, drinking & touring to do!”
Based in Milton, DE, Dogfish Head has proudly been focused on brewing beers with culinary ingredients outside the Reinheitsgebot since the day it opened as the smallest American indie craft brewery 22 years ago. The inventive, rapidly growing off-centered brewery currently sells beer in 38 states and Washington D.C., and will expand into additional states in 2018. “Philly Beer Week holds a special place in our hearts here at Dogfish and this year we be even more special due to the awesome opportunity presented to us to brew a collaboration beer with friends in Belgium,” says Sam Calagione, CEO and founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery.
Dogfish was one of the first OG members of Philly Beer Week, which started in 2007.
Bryan Selders, Brewing Ambassador at Dogfish Head, says “It’s such an honor to represent the Philadelphia beer community with this incredible opportunity. We’ve been working with the folks at Brouwerij De Brabandere to brew an exciting new beer for Philly Beer Week that we cannot wait to share with everyone.”
Along with Bryan, the following members of Philly Loves Beer will be in tow to join in on the beer-making fun; Christina Dowd, Executive Director of PLB, Andy Dickerson, owner of Teresa’s Next Door, Michael Scoats, owner of Grey Lodge Pub, and Tin Angel, Matt Satten of Shangy’s Beer Authority, and Sheila Ballen Community Liaison for PLB.
Be sure to follow along with all of their boozy Belgium adventures on Philly Loves Beer’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
