Oakbrook Brewing Company in Reading, PA has made it their mission to celebrate the history of the city they call home. When they learned that their neighborhood had held annual pet shows in the 1930’s and 40’s, they couldn’t pass up the idea of bringing the tradition back as part of the 18th Ward’s ongoing revitalization.

Newspaper archives dating back 80 years told of children bringing their pets to the fire station that now houses the brewing company to compete for the titles of “Best Dressed Dog”, “Best Dressed Cat”, “Biggest Turtle”, “Smallest Goat”, “2nd Smallest Goat”, and more. After a 75-year hiatus, Oakbrook is reviving this tradition, inviting the public to celebrate fall at the brewery with costumed kids and pets on Sunday, October 30th from 1 to 4pm.

The event will include food, fun, prizes and – best of all – great beer! Plus, kids in costume will receive some awesome bags of candy. Entrance fees and donations will benefit local animal rescue efforts. Don’t miss out on this exciting celebration of history!
