Steph’s New Brew Review: Metanoia

Steph’s New Brew Review: Metanoia

Pisgah Brewing Company Metanoia, a 5.6% ABV bottle conditioned sour ale aged in oak casks

Appearance Pale golden, substantial fluffy white head that lingers.
Aroma Spicy Belgian yeast aroma with subtle tartness.
Taste Wow. Rush of tartness up front with fruity flavors of grape and pear. Finishes dry like a good champagne.
Mouthfeel Effervescent, quite drinkable for a sour.
Overall Delicious. Wayne keeps saying, “I really like this,” and I must say that I completely agree with him!

Metanoia, a spontaneous self-healing following a profound psychotic breakdown, is matured in oak casks for almost a year with wild yeast. The beer offers flavors of sour grape skins with a champagne-like effervescence.

This is their first sour experiment and they certainly nailed it. It’s complex, excellently balanced, just tart enough while still refreshing.

Pisgah Brewing Company is located south of Pisgah National Forest in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Only about 10 miles from Asheville, Pisgah specializes in brewing hand crafted, organic beer.

The Pisgah complex includes a brewery, taproom, featured art space, and outdoor stage. The taproom offers 24 different taps, and there are picnic tables outside and seats by the bar to enjoy the music. The gallery space shows off the talents of local artists.
