I recently visited Seattle, the “Emerald City”, located on Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest. While it may be known for the surrounding water, mountains and evergreen forests, Seattle has no shortage of quality craft breweries.
A stoup by definition is a drinking vessel, as a cup or tankard, of various sizes, and you will want a large stoup at Stoup Brewing. Founded by husband and wife Brad Benson and Lara Zahaba and their friend Robyn Schumacher, Stoup is located at 1108 NW 52nd Street, in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle.
Brad was Head Brewer at a craft brewery that specialized in decoction brewing of German style wheat beers, so be sure to try the Bavarian Hefeweizen during your visit. Other regulars on tap include mk Special Bitter, Mosaic Pale Ale, Citra IPA, NW Red, and Robust Porter. Don’t miss the seasonals, like Stoup Sour #1, a bright and refreshing Berliner Weisse.
Order a beer at the bar in the taproom, then grab a seat at one of the tables or benches indoors by the garage door, or head outside to the bright beer garden with both high tables and picnic tables. There are a few rotating snack options available at the taproom, but you may bring your own food or support one of the local food trucks.
Stoup Brewing is open Monday to Thursday 3 to 9 PM, Friday 3 to 10 PM, Saturday noon to 10 PM, and Sunday noon to 9 PM. There is plenty of free street parking.
