Steph’s New Brew Review: Six Rivers Chili Pepper Ale

Steph’s New Brew Review: Six Rivers Chili Pepper Ale

Six Rivers Brewery’s Chili Pepper Ale, a 6.0% spicy ale

Six Rivers Brewery, located in McKinleyville, California, was purchased in 2004 by co-owners Talia Nachshon and Meredith Ripley. Six Rivers brews have been featured at LA Fashion Weekend and in magazines such as EveryDay with Rachel Ray.  The beers have also been served at many celebrity events.

Brewmaster, Carlos “Los” Sanchez, was the assistant brewer at Humboldt Brewery in Arcata, California (where he was known for Red Nectar), attended the Siebel Institute of Brewing Technology, then joined Six Rivers Brewery eleven years ago.

The Chili Pepper Ale is a 2004 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal Winner. It is their Weatherman Wheat infused with a special blend of fire roasted chiles.

Appearance

pale, clear, orange hues

Aroma

like you’d expect – peppery and spicy

Taste

not as spicy as I’d like, but the pepper flavor is well balanced

Mouthfeel

light bodied with nice carbonation

Overall

I found this beer to be extremely drinkable, though it’s not as spicy as I would have liked. (If you love the heat like I do, I’d recommend Twisted Pine Brewing Company’s Ghost Face Killah.)

Special thanks to our Uncle Chuck for sharing this beer with me by the pool during our stay in Henderson, Nevada!
