This fall Ommegang Brewing Company added a new year-round beer to their line up. Rosetta is a traditional Belgian Kriek blended by their sister brewery Liefmans.

Ommegang’s Brewmaster, Phil Leinhart, wanted to create a soured fruit beer, but the climate and current brewery in Cooperstown, New York wouldn’t allow it. Luckily, Ommegang’s Belgian sister-brewery, Liefmans was willing to help!

Rosetta is a balanced blend of old Flemish brown ale that has been aged on cherries for at least three years and young Flemish brown ale, or oud bruin, with a fruity kriek, or cherry beer. The result of this blend is a complex interaction of tartness and sweetness.

Rosetta is named in honor or  Madame Rosa Merckx, Liefmans’ former Brewmaster and the first Belgian woman with that title.

Ommegang recommends pairing Rosetta with light fare such as salad, chicken liver pâté or a pork terrine, soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, or a smooth chocolate mousse.
