Steph’s New Brew Review: Midnight Fuggle

Nimble Hill Brewing Company Midnight Fuggle, a 5.5% ABV Robust Porter

Appearance Dark brown in color with a long-lasting tan head.
Aroma Subtle hints of dark chocolate and roasted malts.
Taste Dark, roasty malts with hints of bitter chocolate and coffee. Earthy, floral notes follow with a slight sweetness in the finish.
Mouthfeel Creamy and satisfying.
Overall This is a delicious beer. The flavor develops as the beer warms. Perfect for these frigid days!

Nimble Hill Brewing Company, located in the Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, is part of Nimble Hill Winery and Vineyard, making it one of the only combined winery-brewery in the state. (The Vineyard and Brewery at Hershey is another one of our personal favorites.)

Owner Gay Toczko and Brewmaster Mike Simmons hope to make the region of the Endless Mountains a “brewing mecca,” returning to the large amount of breweries in the region during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Some of the other breweries currently open in the area include Endless Brewing in Montrose and Yorkholo Brewing Company in Mansfield.

Nimble Hill Brewing Company uses a 15-barrel farm style brewery, producing beers in 12-ounce bottles, sixtels, and specialty 750mL bottles. Patrons can visit the Growler Den for samples and growler fills. The Growler Den, located in Tunkhannock, PA, is open seven days a week.

Midnight Fuggle is the big brother to Nimble Hill’s Fuggle, a 3.5% ABV traditional English Brown Ale with notes of caramel, toffee, chocolate, coffee, and plum. Midnight Fuggle is a robust porter full of roasted and chocolate malt flavors. Hints of coffee, dark chocolate, toffee, and caramel are present with a dash of Fuggle hops and English ale yeast for an earthy, floral background.
