Avery Brewing Company, located in Boulder, Colorado, was founded in September 1993 by then homebrewer President and Brewmaster Adam Avery.

He began brewing Redpoint Amber Ale, Ellie’s Brown Ale, and Out of Bounds Stout using a 7 barrel brewhouse.

He made a name for himself when Out of Bounds Stout won a gold medal in 1994 at the Great American Beer Festival.

The brewery began selling bottled beer in 1996. That same year, the first batch of Avery IPA was brewed. Today this is Avery’s best selling beer. Old Jubilation Ale, an English Strong Ale, was first released in October 1997, and in 1999, New World Porter and Hog Heaven were added to the line up.

In 2000, the 7 barrel brewhouse was replaced with a 40 barrel JV Northwest brewhouse. By 2002, annual capacity was up to 4,000 barrels, which doubled to 8.000 barrels per year the very next year. New beers like The Reverend, Salvation Belgian Golden Ale, The Czar Russian Imperial Stout, and White Rascal were added.

Avery’s Barrel-Aging Program began around this time including the sought-after “Crucified” series. Beers like Salvation Crucified and The Reverend Crucified debuted along with the world class rated Maharaja Imperial IPA.

Avery continues to add new and creative beers each year, experimenting with new styles and ingredients. A recent addition, Liliko’i Kepolo, a tropical and tart Belgian-style white ale brewed with spices and passion fruit added. This year’s batch was released on Mother’s Day during a luau celebration at the brewery.

Capturing that island feel, Liliko’i Kepolo is brewed with coriander, orange peel, and passion fruit. Whether by the pool or at the beach, this is the perfect summer brew.
