Steph’s New Brew Review: Hornycopia

Steph’s New Brew Review: Hornycopia

Horny Goat Brewing Company’s HornyCopia, a 6.3% ABV pumpkin ale

Horny Goat Brewing Company, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, makes beer for people who like to party. At least that’s what their Facebook page says. They make craft beers with a sense of humor. “Carefully Crafted. Famously Fun.”

The Horny Goat brand goes beyond beer. With their brewpub and music venue Horny Goat Hideaway and recently opened marina, they have worked to establish themselves as “a premier Milwaukee destination focusing on lifestyle, entertainment, and legendary service.”

HornyCopia is made with pumpkins in the mash along with 2 Row, Vienna, and Caramel malts. Spices are added during the boil for that “pumpkin pie taste.”

Appearance

Hazy amber color with orange hues, foamy white head that dissipates quickly.

Aroma

Bready yeast aroma with pumpkin pie spices – nutmeg, cinnamon, clove.

Taste

Pumpkin pie spices up front; ends sweet like brown sugar with some bitterness.

Mouthfeel

High carbonation; crisp at first then finishes a bit syrupy.

Overall

This feels like a pumpkin cream ale to me. A bit sweet, but the use of spices is nicely done.
