One of the largest specialty breweries in the Midwest, Boulevard Brewing Company was founded in 1989. Their mission is to produce fresh, flavorful beers using the finest traditional ingredients and the best of both old and new brewing techniques.

Founder John McDonald started construction of the brewery in 1988 in a historic brick building on Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City. The first batches of beer were brewed in fall of 1989 in the vintage Bavarian brewhouse. The first keg of Boulevard Pale Ale was sold in November of that year.

Today Boulevard’s brewing capacity is about 600,000 barrels a year. Located inside the 3-story, 70,000 square foot building are a state-of-the-art 150-barrel brewhouse, packaging lines, offices, and hospitality rooms.

The most popular Boulevard beer is the GABF Gold Medal-winning Unfiltered Wheat Beer. In fact, this easy-drinking American-style wheat beer is the best-selling craft beer in the Midwest.

Another year-round offering is the 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer, which combines the aroma of an India Pale Ale with the refreshing taste of a wheat beer. The hybrid of these two popular brewing styles is a result of careful cultivation by the brewers and cellarmen.
