|Root Down Brewing Company
1 N Main Street | Phoenixville, PA
Root Down Brewing Company opened its doors on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, joining a burgeoning craft beer scene in Phoenixville, which includes Crowded Castle Brewing Company, Iron Hill Brewery, Sly Fox Brewing Company, and Stable 12 Brewing Company. Conshohocken Brewing Company will soon join the growing list.
Located in an old root beer factory, the space has been transformed into a large brewpub offering plenty of space and seating. The space is accented with impressive graffiti throughout.
Brewers Mike Harama and Steve Bischoff create their concoctions on the 17 barrel brewhouse located behind a chainlink fence behind the bar. Harama previously owned Artisan Homebrew, and Bischoff most recently brewed for Sly Fox.
You can order a beer at the bar, or wait for a wondering bartender to find you at one of the many seating areas throughout the space. The beer list included:
- Gala – 6.2% ABV Farmhouse Ale
- Three Legged Rabbit (3LR) – 5.2% ABV Altbier
- Stay Gold – 5.2% ABV Golden Saison
- Slag – 5.9% ABV American Pale Wheat Ale
- Flux – 6.6% ABV Unfiltered American IPA
- Bine – 6.7% ABV American IPA
- New Beginnings – 5.9% ABV American Pale Ale
- Soul – 4.2% ABV Belgian Wit
- Phuse Vol. 1 – 4.5% ABV Hoppy Hefeweizen
Since our visit, Root Down has tapped Cosmic Brownie, a 7.1% ABV Chocolate Milk Stout.
In addition to beer, ciders from Stone & Key Ciders including Brandy Barrel Aged Cider and Añejo Lime Cider, as well as wines from Stone & Key Wines are available. Non-alcoholic drinks including Pepsi products, sweetened and unsweetened iced tea, sparkling water, and Hires Root Beer are also available.
Food is served on site from Tuesday through Saturday from 4PM to 9PM and Sunday from 4PM to 7PM. Order food from the kitchen window in the back, and the food will be delivered to your table when ready.
The menu includes meat platters, sandwiches, and tacos from the Smokehouse featuring pulled pork and pulled chicken. Vegetarians will be pleased with the Veggie Wrap or the Hippie Picnic Panini. The fresh hot sweet potato biscuits served with whipped sweet cinnamon butter are quite divine.
