Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works was founded by Pat Devlin, Matt Fritz, Tony DeLellis, and Ben Ramsay. The Susquenita High School friends had the idea since graduating together in 2000. The group’s dream came true when the tasting room opened in July 2016.
The veteran owned and operated business has one focus – to give back to the communities around them while providing a one-of-a-kind experience. The motto is, “Come Raise a Flag with us!”
Tattered Flag is located in the former Elks building on the first block of South Union Street in Middletown. The 10-barrel brewhouse and fermentation space are located on the bottom floor, the distilling equipment and tasting room are on the main floor, and the brewpub, private event space, and second bar are located upstairs.

- Cranberry Saison – 5.2% ABV Saison
- Green Apple Hard Cider – 6% ABV Cider from Wyndridge Farm
- Dr Jinx Chai Milk Stout – 4.99% ABV Milk Stout
I had head brewer Tony Schneider choose the beers in my sampler, and I was not disappointed. The best thing about Tattered Flag is their ability to brew a variety of styles well. While I loved the IPAs like Pullin A Harvey and TMI PA, I was equally impressed by War Bonds Breakfast Stout and Cranberry Saison.
There is a small food menu offered in the tasting room with snacks like spiced nuts, chips & salsa, roasted red pepper hummus, BBQ nachos, and local smoked sausage. Soups, salads, and sandwiches are also served in the tasting room.
The brewpub upstairs offers a full menu of delicious choices, including a kids’ menu. Be sure to check out the full bar upstairs as well because the tap list is slightly different, and cocktails and wine are also served. We enjoyed Paters Gonna Hate, a unique Patersbier style beer with peppermint. Yum!
The upstairs menu includes snacks like fried pickles, grilled bread, and Scotch egg, as well as starters like IPA fries, fried green tomatoes, and crispy pig wigs. Sandwiches include turkey & sausage meatloaf, roasted big shoulder, and the Fancy Burger, which is served with smoked gouda, crispy onions, baby arugula, tomato jam, and spicy mayo. Supper options include chicken sausage, fish & chips, pork schnitzel, seared salmon, and steak & fries.
Brunch is served on Sundays with many options including carrot cake baked oatmeal with pineapple cream cheese, a warm fig sticky bun, Brewery Eggs Benny, biscuits & gravy, and three egg omelet of the day. A select offerings from the dinner menu are also available.
A unique opportunity at Tattered Flag is their “Brew Your Own” beer sessions. Utilizing the 1-barrel brew system, individuals or groups can book sessions with the Tattered Flag brewers to brew a beer to take home with them. Click here for more information.

The tasting room is open Wednesday and Thursday 4 to 10 PM, Friday and Saturday 11:30 AM to midnight, and Sunday 11:30 AM to 10 PM. The brewpub is open Wednesday to Saturday 4 PM to 10 PM. Tours are offered at 1, 2, and 3 PM on Saturdays.
