Portland, Oregon is regularly rated among America’s top craft beer cities. According to oregoncraftbeer.org, it’s estimated that 53% percent of all draft beer consumed in Oregon is brewed in Oregon. There are currently 58 breweries in Portland and 84 in the Portland metro area.
I recently had a chance to visit Portland, Oregon, and while I did not visit all 84 Portland-area breweries, I did manage to check out 14 stand out breweries.
Culmination Brewing was founded by Tomas and April Sluiter. Located in Northeast Portland at The Bindery Annex Building, the brewery opened in June 2015 in a 7,000 square foot space with a brewery and tasting room.
The recommended beer on tap at Culmination is Phaedrus IPA, the American IPA brewed with Millennium, Galena, Simcoe, Mosaic and Citra hops voted 4th best IPA by Willamette Week. Other noteworthy beers on tap include Deutschland Down Under Kiwi Dry Hopped Berliner Weisse, Man O’Mandarin Gin Barrel Aged Brett ISA, and Italian Plum Saison.
The kitchen at Culmination serves up snacks like pickled veggies, candied bacon, and a pimento cheese board. Enjoy the Bahn Mi and Grinder, or try the recommended Pork Rillettes, Smoked Chicken, Crispy Papas, Spicy Braised Carrot Tacos.
In addition, Vermont BBQ is served Monday to Thursday from noon to 8 PM and Saturday noon to 9 PM. Vegan Sundays are provided by Of Roots and Blooms, a plant-based restaurant and deli, from noon to 9 PM.
The taproom is open Sunday to Thursday noon to 9 PM and Friday to Saturday noon to 10 PM. Beers are available to go in growlers and growlettes, and some beers are available in 22 ounce bottles. There is an off-street parking lot.
